This month, we break down “Fanciful Notions, Sweeping Gestures” in a poetry jam that’s half critique / half interview.
The topic? Romance! But it’s a challenge, holding the attention of these stanza-loving stans—will Captain and our other talented experts be feeling the love?
Songs in this video:
– An alternate noodly version of “Hunting High and Low” I recorded as a Tiny Extra
– My cover of “Cavalry Captain” by The Decemberists
– One of my first covers: the theme from Last of the Mohicans
– A cover of “Acoustic # 3” by The Goo Goo Dolls
I had a number of challenges with this video: I was particularly fatigued during filming, and so didn’t realize that I’d forgotten to attach my tiny smartphone mic to my iPad. This resulted in a ton of hiss and uneven audio. I finally got it uploaded to YouTube and thought I was set…until I hit Play and realized that the sound was incredibly quiet. It turned out that the audio was measuring about three times softer than it should have, so I went back again for more tweaking, converting, re-uploading, etc.
The good news is that I’ve managed to fix most of the audio. Some sections are a bit thump-y, but it’s much better than it was. Next time, I’ll remember to ensure I’ve got the smartphone mic attached!
This is a different sort of episode, in that the poem’s already been posted, there’s a few interview sections, and I enlisted quite a menagerie to help. Yay experimentation!
Want to see everything I’ve created in the same place? Because you can do that!
