Welcome, friends, to Webseries Two! Webseries the Younger! WEBSERIES 2000.
This month, a MYSTERIOUS GUEST HOST and I dive into an acoustic guitar chinwag: do you mic the guitar or go with direct input instead? What’s the challenge of recording an instrument with piezo pickups? Can you tell an audio interface from a DAW? Why did HBO greenlight an incredible fantasy series called Carnivale, but then refused to promote it and canceled the series in Season 2 based solely on DVD sales of Season 1? We’ll tackle…most of those questions!
Songs in this video (and there’s a quite a few):
– My cover of “Hey Ya” (Obadiah Parker version)
– My acoustic cover of STP’s “Plush”
– An older YouTube cover I did of Jonathan Coulton’s “I Crush Everything”
– That time I tried my hand at a Taylor Swift song
– My version of “Wagon Wheel”
– Inside the Triple Llama opening theme (Title TBD)
– Inside the Triple Llama closing theme (Title TBD)
Although I obviously played its opening riff live in this episode (because that’s kinda the point of the series!), I did cover “Wish You Were Here” in full a long time ago…it’s the first cover I posted here, in fact!
A note on the Triple Llama theme: Like much of the art I make, this wasn’t my original idea. Even though I only needed 15-20 seconds of music, every chord progression and melody I was playing sounded obnoxiously like something else. I’d been at it for a few days and couldn’t seem to get around that roadblock…so I decided to run straight into it.
The lyrics are mine, and I played all instruments except drums (which came from a practice track intended for aspiring drummers). As for the actual songwriting, well….you’ll recognize it.
