September’s poem is based on a writing prompt from @PolymerMonkey, who also sent an accompanying picture of a “goat gate” painted by her grandmother. My plan is to recreate that painting as best I can, then ink the story on top of it. Because this is a microfiction piece and it’s only 200 words, I should have more than enough room to do that. I chose watercolors for the task because I wanted the underlying artwork to be more of an outline that a heavy, detailed representation.
I didn’t get terribly far—it doesn’t really look like anything yet—but I’m pleased with Stage 1. Tomorrow, I’ll touch-up a few areas and add more detail.
Materials used: Oversized canvas, watercolors, acrylic paint (titanium white only), gouache (orange only). .
